Madras Institute of Technology, Anna University, is an engineering institute located at MIT Rd, Radha Nagar, Chromepet, Chennai, Tamil Nadu 600044. Established in 1949 by Chinnaswami Rajam, it is one of the four autonomous constituent colleges of Anna University and was the first self-financing engineering institute in India. The institute initially offered three-year diploma courses in engineering for science graduates and later introduced undergraduate B.Tech programs, including specializations in aeronautical engineering, automobile engineering, electronics engineering, and instrumentation technology. Following its merger with Anna University in 1978, it expanded to include postgraduate programs.[1][2]

The institute operates under the governance of Anna University's Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, and Registrar, with a Dean overseeing administration and each department led by a Head of the Department. It provides undergraduate and postgraduate programs in fields such as production technology, automobile engineering, mechatronics, and robotics and automation. Departments engage in research, consultancy, and activities through centers like the Centre for Automotive Research and Training. Admissions to UG programs, including B.E./B.Tech., are managed through the Centre for Admissions of Anna University via single window counseling.[1][4][5]
